In the Octobers of 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and in February of 2014 I visited Iceland for the purposes of Photography.
Use the drop down menu under 'locations' to find lots more Iceland photos.
The first trip was a package tour, badly planned, and saw me driving around rather aimlessley looking for photo locations. On my second and third visits I had a fairly well researched list of places I wanted to photograph.
Over the 4 trips I stayed in Vik, Hofn, Keflavik, Myvatn, Grundafjordur and the Bates Motel in Borgarnes. The weather varied from bitingly cold to shirtsleeve mild and from dry & sunny to sodden & miserable. In 2011 and 2012 I didn't see much rain much but 2013 more than compensated for that with 5 solid days of grey drizzle. 2014 was just COLD!
October daylight is from about 7am to 7pm and February about 10.15am to 5.15pm and those times determined my daily schedule. I was up and out early and usually in bed by 9pm. I drove for miles and miles as Iceland is considerably bigger than it looks at 40,000 square miles (or five times the size of Wales). The 90kph (55mph) speed limited is a bit limiting but, as there are speed cameras and draconian fines, you have to respect it.
Iceland is the most spectacular country I've ever visited. I will go back....
